Behind the Scenes of Our Luxury Lodges

When you arrive at Howgill Lodge, the space feels warm and welcoming, and the views immediately do their job. It is the kind of place where you can put your bags down, take a breath, and settle in right away.

Our lodges have been carefully designed, built and looked after to create a stay that feels relaxed from start to finish. It is about getting the balance right between comfort, simplicity, and those small details that make a difference over the course of your stay.

A Closer Look at Our Lodges

Each of our luxury timber lodges have their own unique character and style, but share the same high standard.  The layout, setting and overall feel of each lodge varies slightly, so you can find one that suits the kind of break you are after.

The Twitcher Cabin

The Twitcher Cabin is perfect if you are looking for a slower, more peaceful kind of stay. Set on its own land a short stroll up the road from our site, it has uninterrupted views and a real sense of quiet. It is ideal for couples, nature lovers who want to switch off, and those travelling with four-legged friends.  Enjoy slow mornings with a coffee on the deck or evenings in the hot tub under the stars.

What makes The Twitcher stand out is how much it leans into its surroundings. It is fully dog-friendly, with a large enclosed garden and even a private field right outside, so there is plenty of room to roam. The outdoor space is just as inviting as the inside, with a wood-fired hot tub, fire pit and hammock all set up for relaxed evenings. Inside, it keeps that same cosy feel, with an open-plan layout, Smart TV, and everything you need for an easy stay.

The Gamekeeper

The Gamekeeper has a really balanced feel to it. It is spacious enough for groups or families, but still feels warm and comfortable rather than oversized. The open-plan layout makes it easy to spend time together, whether you are cooking, chatting, or just unwinding after a day out in the Dales.

Inside, you have a fully fitted kitchen, comfortable seating, and a log burner that makes the space feel especially cosy on cooler evenings. Step outside and the lodge really opens up, with a large timber deck, wood-fired hot tub and a fire pit with a pizza oven for laid back evenings outdoors. Positioned to one side, it also has uninterrupted views and a large front window that frames the sunsets perfectly. It is worth noting that this lodge is not dog-friendly, which helps keep it suited to guests looking for that specific setup.

The Herdsman

The Herdsman is a great choice if you are staying a little longer or visiting as a group. It has a slightly more open and sociable feel, with plenty of room to spread out without losing that cosy atmosphere. The layout flows naturally from the kitchen through to the living space, making it easy to settle in and feel at home.

It is designed with comfort and practicality in mind, sleeping up to six and offering everything you need for a relaxed stay. Outside, the large deck, hot tub and dining area give you a great space to make the most of the views, whether that is breakfast in the fresh air or a slower evening with food and drinks. Like The Gamekeeper, The Herdsman is not dog-friendly, which helps maintain a consistent setup for guests booking this lodge.

The Shepherd

The Shepherd has a slightly different feel thanks to its position on site. Sitting higher up, it makes the most of the surrounding views and gets plenty of natural light throughout the day. It is a great option if you want that extra sense of openness while still having a cosy space to come back to.

This is one of the dog-friendly lodges, so it works well if you are bringing a pet along. Outside, the wraparound decking gives you more space to relax, with a hot tub and seating area that makes the most of its elevated spot. Inside, you will find the same thoughtful layout as the other lodges, with an open plan kitchen, comfortable living space and everything set up for an easy, stress-free stay.

The Fisherman

The Fisherman is ideal if you are after something a bit more tucked away. Positioned privately, it feels nice and quiet, which adds to its appeal if you are looking to properly switch off for a few days.

It is also one of the dog-friendly options, so you can bring your pet along without having to compromise on space or comfort. The decking at the back of the lodge looks out across the Wharfe Valley, with the hot tub placed to make the most of the view. Inside, the design subtly reflects its name, with characterful details throughout, while still keeping that same high standard of comfort, open plan living and well-equipped space found across all the lodges.

Comfort in the Details

One of the things that makes our lodges feel so natural to stay in is the way they sit within their surroundings. Each one has been carefully positioned to make the most of the views, while still offering a real sense of privacy so you can enjoy your own space without feeling overlooked.

Inside our lodges, the layouts are open and easy to move through, so whether you are cooking, sharing a meal, or just spending time together, nothing feels cramped or overcomplicated. Furniture is chosen with comfort and practicality in mind, creating a space that feels easy to settle into from the moment you arrive.

That same attention carries through into how the lodges are looked after. Each one is carefully prepared before every arrival, with a clear focus on cleanliness, presentation, and making sure everything feels ready for your stay. There is a steady routine behind the scenes that keeps standards consistent, from housekeeping through to ongoing maintenance across the site.

A Team That Keeps Things Running Smoothly

Behind it all is a team that takes pride in making sure everything runs as it should. From keeping the grounds looking their best to making sure each lodge is ready for your arrival, there is a steady focus on consistency and care.

The aim is simply to make your stay feel smooth and enjoyable from the moment you arrive.

More Than Just a Place to Stay

Our lodges are designed to be more than just somewhere to sleep. They are spaces where you can slow down, enjoy the surroundings and spend time doing exactly what you feel like doing.

Whether that means long walks in the countryside, cosy evenings indoors or a bit of both, everything is set up to help you make the most of your time away.
