Campfire recipes to try this year!

You’ve booked your glamping holiday, and you excitedly start to plan every little detail. What to pack, what to wear and what activities are there nearby? Then your mind turns to food, now of course you are on holiday so letting someone else do the cooking (and washing up) is the easiest option but if you are glamping with us, what about the fire pit, grill and pizza oven sitting on your decking? Or what about the BBQ you added to the car last minute for your camping trip? You could be missing out on a truly tasty feast! Get back into nature and cook on real flames, here are some simple recipes to get you started!

Good old-fashioned Baked Potatoes.

Easy and filling, the perfect glamping dinner!

Poke each potato several times with a fork, then wrap them in tin foil and place them directly into the embers of the fire, keep the fire going around them and in 30 – 50 minutes you will have perfect baked potatoes, crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Finish off with your favourite toppings!

Campfire bread.

Only 3 ingredients and some clean sticks are needed for this one! It is a great way to get the kids involved to.

To make the dough knead together 100g self-raising flour, 4 tablespoons of natural yogurt and 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a bowl until you have a dough. Divide the dough into 4 and shape into rough sausages, take your (clean) sticks and wrap the dough around the end of each one then hold over the hot embers and rotate slowly until cooked and golden. Roughly 5 to 10 minutes. Perfect for making hot dogs!

Individual nacho packs.

A great option if you have fussy little eaters with you as everyone can choose their own toppings.

Take your tin foil and rip a square around 18 inches wide, pile up your nachos in the middle leaving a 2-inch gap all around the edge, add whatever toppings you fancy, and don’t forget the cheese! Once you’re happy with your choice of toppings, take another piece of tin foil the same size and place this over the top of your nachos. Crimp the two pieces of foil together around the edge to create a tight seal. Then, with the grill positioned over the embers, pop the foil packet onto the grill for around 10 minutes. Carefully remove, uncover, and add any fresh toppings such as sour cream and enjoy!

Cheese fondue.

This one is more for the adults, an indulgent cheese fondue that will have everyone wanting to scrape the pan.

To make the fondue you will need 1 garlic clove, 2 teaspoons of cornstarch, 400ml of white wine and 700g of cheese, we suggest using a mixture of Cheddar and Gruyere. Lastly whatever you would like to dip!

Rub the inside of the pan with the garlic clove then discard, place the pan onto the grill over the hot embers, add 350ml of wine to the pan and bring to a simmer. Slowly add the cheese mixture, stirring often until all the cheese has melted. Combine the 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with the remaining 50ml of wine and mix well. Add the cornstarch mixture to the fondue and stir until thick and smooth. Remove from the heat and get dipping. If the cheese gets too thick return to the heat.

Or indulge your sweet tooth with some campfire deserts …

Baked Apples

One of the easiest campfire desserts of all time with only 3 ingredients.

You will need 1 apple per person, a tablespoon of sugar and a quarter a teaspoon of cinnamon. Core your apples and add the sugar and cinnamon into the hole. Wrap your apples in tin foil and place them directly into the embers of the fire for 10 to 15 minutes until soft.

S’mores

A campfire classic

Biscuits, chocolate and marshmallows, what’s not to love? Toast your marshmallows over the fire, then sandwich your gooey toasted marshmallow and a square of chocolate between 2 biscuits and enjoy!
