A Sunny Start at Howgill Lodge – Our First Few Months in North Yorkshire
As we come to the end of our first few months here managing Howgill Lodge, we wanted to take a moment to share a little behind the scenes of life on-site – and to say a big thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey so far.
It’s safe to say we’ve learned a lot about what goes into running a campsite! From the day-to-day operations to all the unexpected admin, maintenance tasks, and behind-the-scenes jobs that keep the wheels turning, there’s never a dull moment. Every day brings something new, and while it’s been a steep learning curve, it’s also been incredibly rewarding.
One of the things that has made this experience so enjoyable is our fantastic team. We feel very lucky to have such a hardworking, friendly, and capable group of wardens—Cara, Tyler, Gill, and Steve—who have settled in brilliantly and bring so much energy and care to the site. Whether they’re helping guests, keeping everything running smoothly, or just bringing good vibes to the day, we couldn’t do it without them.
And of course, we can’t forget our four-legged residents! The alpacas are thriving in their hillside home and seem to love all the attention from our campers and glampers. They’re always happy to say hello and are fast becoming a favourite part of the Howgill Lodge experience.
We’ve also been blessed with some truly unseasonably sunny weather this spring, which has made everything that bit easier and more enjoyable. Sunshine seems to bring out the best in people (and alpacas!) and it’s been lovely to see so many smiling faces enjoying the views, walks, and peaceful atmosphere here in the Yorkshire Dales.
Most importantly, we want to say a huge thank you to all of our lovely guests. You’ve helped keep the site looking beautiful, you’ve shared kind words and thoughtful feedback, and you’ve made this start to our new chapter a really special one. Your support means the world to us.
We’re looking forward to the summer ahead and can’t wait to welcome even more of you to Howgill Lodge. Whether you’re returning or visiting for the first time, we hope you find a warm welcome, a peaceful spot to unwind, and maybe even a new alpaca friend or two!
Alex, George, Jack, Dougie and Alfie.
