During the half term holidays, you can spend the morning walking, before heading out for a well-deserved lunch, and then returning to the lodge for a cosy afternoon. You can then make the most of having your own private hot tub and enjoy soaking under the stars for the rest of the evening. We have five individually designed lodges at Howgill, so families can choose the one that feels right for their stay.
The Twitcher, The Gamekeeper, The Herdsman, The Shepherd and The Fisherman each have their own character, while giving you the comforts you want from a family break.
Inside, there is space to cook, eat, and spend time together, while outside you have your own decking with a seating area, hot tub, and fire pit with a pizza oven. It gives you the freedom to have an evening at the lodge without feeling like you need to head back out again.
Get Outside During the Day
A half term break in the Yorkshire Dales would not be complete without pulling on your walking boots at least once.
You do not have to travel far either. There are walking routes around Howgill ranging from gentler riverside walks to longer routes for families who fancy making more of a day of it.
Autumn half term brings changing colours across the Dales, while February half term has a completely different feel with crisp mornings and winter scenery. Whichever school holiday you visit during, there is plenty of countryside to explore.
And knowing there is a hot tub waiting back at the lodge makes the walk home considerably more appealing.
Evenings Without a Schedule
One of the advantages of staying in a lodge rather than a hotel is having your own space once the day is over.
There is no set dinner time to work around and no need to keep everyone entertained somewhere else until bedtime. You can cook together, make pizzas outside, put a film on or spend some time around the fire pit.
