A Summer to Remember at Howgill Lodge

As the summer holidays draw to a close, we’ve found ourselves taking a moment to reflect on what has truly been an unforgettable first season here at Howgill Lodge. It’s hard to believe how quickly the weeks have flown by—but when you’re surrounded by breathtaking Yorkshire Dales scenery, working with a fantastic team, and welcoming such lovely guests, time really does seem to race by!

We’ve been incredibly lucky with the weather this year. Glorious sunshine, warm evenings, and starlit nights have set the perfect backdrop for campers and glampers alike to enjoy everything Howgill has to offer. From marshmallow-toasting at dusk to early morning coffees overlooking Wharfedale, the magic of summer here has been undeniable.

One of the biggest highlights of the season has been the launch of our brand new, dog-friendly timber lodge—The Twitcher. It’s been a huge hit! Whether it was the gorgeous views, the cosy interior, or simply the fact that four-legged family members could come along for the adventure, we’ve been blown away by the positive response. A big thank you to everyone who’s stayed already and shared such lovely feedback.

Another of our most unique (and fluffy!) additions this season has been the introduction of our Alpaca Picnic Experience. Guests can now enjoy a relaxing picnic in the heart of the Dales with our 3 boys. It’s been a real hit with families and couples alike—and we can’t wait to welcome more of you to meet our woolly friends.

We also want to take a moment to say a huge THANK YOU to our fantastic warden team—Cara, Tyler, Gill, and Steve. Your hard work, warmth, and energy have played such a huge role in making this season so special. Whether it’s been helping guests settle in, keeping everything spotless, or sharing local tips with visitors, we couldn’t have done it without you.

To all the families, friends, couples, solo travellers—and of course, all the wagging tails—who’ve stayed with us over the summer: thank you. Your smiles, stories, and campfire laughter have made Howgill Lodge feel like a true community, and it’s been a joy to meet all the new and returning faces.

As we look toward the back end of the season, we’re excited to keep the momentum going. We’re already planning some exciting additions to the site—including transforming another one of our beautiful lodges into a dog-friendly escape, so even more guests can bring their pups along next year.

We’re also turning our attention to our enchanting bluebell woodland, with plans underway to create a nature trail that we hope will delight explorers of all ages. Whether you’re spotting wildlife, strolling under the canopy, or simply soaking up the peace and quiet, we think it’ll be a special new corner of Howgill to enjoy.

Thanks again for being part of our journey so far—it’s been an amazing first season, and we’re just getting started.
